4 p.m. everyday

March 8, 2011

Coffee with you

Is a choreographed routine.

Flimsy styrofoam cups

With tiny stirrers and

Tubular sachets of powdered sugar.

I sip, you stir and stir

As if you will churn out words

Merely by stirring and not speaking.

After five minutes, when I am done

You ask, “Was it hot?” and

I reply, “Not really”, you sip

Your coffee slowly and I yawn.
