After work

February 5, 2011

As evening dissolves into inky night

I start to walk the long way home

I plug in my music, turn up volume

And drown the myriad blaring horns

Blinding beams from passing cars

Lower my lids and look at ground

A banana skin, a used condom

To my left a graffiti wall

To my right, a tea stall

And right in front, standing straight

A beggar with no arms

I look above and sigh, see

A torn paper kite tangled in wires

Just below the starry sky
